Waywick Behavior & Society
Behavior
Waywicks are toublemakers. While most are generally non-threatening, they do like to make life just a little more difficult for the humans they live near. While some behavioral quirks are relative to the class of an individual waywick, there are definite traits that encompass waywicks as a whole.
Standard Waywick Behaviors
-
While waywicks are mischievous, they will -for the most part- not seek to harm anything unless they feel threatened. However, prank-like or annoying behavior towards humans and other species is very common.
-
It is common for a waywick to imprint on other beings outside of their species, including humans. This is only ever done to one being, and can serve as a personal companion or protector. But let it be known that they are rarely well-behaved.
-
Waywicks have been known to collect things, especially shoes worn on the left foot. The purpose of the collection is unknown, with many of the items and shoes ending up discarded in The Circle. However, sometimes personal "hoards" are kept as well and used as jewelry or for decorating a living space.
-
While most have never thought to try it, sugar is an addictive substance to waywicks due to the way it is absorbed by their Source Energy. Anyone offering sugar, or sugary substances such as candy, to waywicks best keep a hefty supply on hand or be prepared to face an onslaught of ransacked cupbords and pantries on a frequent basis ;p
-
If an item is stolen from you by a waywick is wanted back, an offering may be left out for the offending waywick. The larger the offering, the more abundant the return. But it is uncertain whether you will receive exactly what you’re wanting back.
Mischievous Behaviors By Class
Some behaviors and misbehaviors are more common in specific classes. It is possible for these behaviors to be found in other classes, however it is uncommon.

Rogues tend to be the more aggressive of the three classes.

*Persons who have experienced being kidnapped by a waywick state that they awoke in a location that they've never seen before. Each report has claimed that the unknown location was some sort of circular clearing within a forest. Each report also claims that after a short walk, the individual was able to find their way out of the clearing and emerge near their place of residence. The forest is said to not be there anymore once the person has emerged from it. It is believed that these are the only way non-waywicks can access The Circle.

Society
Waywick society, like other societies, has a system of leadership as well as things generally considered bad or taboo
Belief System and Leadership
-
Waywicks have one "deity." The deity, known as Mama or Móðir, is the very first waywick who gave up it's own energy and essence to create the species itself. Mama is honored by all waywicks, although some M̶a͘y n̡ot̛ a̡g̛r̕ee with the rules set in place in Mama's memory. Offerings are often left in The Circle as a way of paying respect, especially shoes worn on the left foot.
-
A being, known as the Wailer, is viewed as a negative entity who's sole goal is to pull waywicks to corruption***
-
Tail rings represent a closeness to Mama. Grand and Geist class waywicks carry 3 rings, where-as Rogue class waywicks, who are more commonly aggressive, carry 2. Rings are incapable of falling off the tail as they are a manifestation of the spiritual closeness to their deity. Only waywicks who have fallen into the clutch of corruption lack tail rings, as they have cast aside Mama entirely.***
-
Overseers are the leaders or 'alphas' of waywick society. They are considered the closest to Mama and as such, have been allowed to decorate their masks as a way to recognize their leadership. Overseer Riverstone was the first to be born following Mama's passing and is regarded as the leader of Waywick society.
Celebrations and Holidays
-
It is not uncommon for waywicks to celebrate "hatchdays" with other waywicks or their imprinted being (if they are imprinted), celebrating the day they were strong enough to emerge from their crystal tear.
-
Mourning Day is celebrated every spring, in remembrance of Mama and her imprinted human. During this time, waywicks gather more offerings and spend the day in mournful silence.
-
Wailing Night, a halloween-like celebration, happens every fall. It is a day in which waywicks "scare off" the Wailer and keep it away
-
Some human celebrations like New Years and Valentines Day are celebrated by waywicks who wish to participate
Living
-
Waywicks are typically found in woodland settings, but they can live in any setting they find suitable, including urban.
-
All waywicks have access to Hringr (aka The Circle), a Realm on Yggdrasil comprised of a forest with a large, circular clearing. Travelling to The Circle is typically reserved for communing, leaving offerings or celebrating holidays with other waywicks, but is occasionally used to spook the victims of their pranks. (see above)
Relationships
-
Waywicks typically enjoy the presence of other waywicks as well as other beings, depending on the individual waywick. like humans, some just don't get along well while others could become great friends. Some like gathering with other waywicks, while some are more shy and introverted. It entirely depends on the waywick.
-
It is possible for waywicks to fall in love and be romantically involved. However, the lack of internal organs means they do not have genetalia and cannot "reproduce" or go about the motions of reproducing.
-
It is possible for waywicks to imprint on another waywick. This is a sort of marriage-esque situation, as waywicks will only imprint on one being in their life. If waywicks imprint on each other it is viewed as the highest form of devotion to each other.
Life and Death
-
Due to their anatomy, waywicks cannot reproduce by normal means. If offspring is to be had, a waywick will use a piece of it’s source energy and shed a tear containing that energy. The tear will then crystalize and fall. The parent will hide the tear in a location of their choosing (water/river, trees, a bird’s nest, buried, etc). Over time, the energy in the crystal will grow as will the crystal. When they are strong enough, they will take on the manifested appearance of their choosing.
-
Although waywicks do not have a definite lifespan and do not physically age, it IS possible for them to "die" if their energy gets too low.
-
If a waywick 'dies' it reverts back to a crystal tear and goes through the hatching process again. after hatching, the waywick may manifest differently depending on how the energy has changed in the hatching process.
Maintaining Energy
-
Although they lack internal organs, any food that is eaten is immediately broken down by their Source Energy into the very energy that makes up the food, which is then supplemented into their source energy to maintain their strength. Any food that is unable to be broken down is regurgitated.
-
Unlike earthly beings, waywicks have a large amount of energy and can run at great speeds. But they do need to rest on occasion, and if over-exerted, can be found spending a whole day snoozing.
-
Despite their mischievous nature, waywicks love to play among themselves and other wild life. Maintaining morale through play or interaction can help keep energy boosted.
-
Physically manifesting and using magic uses energy and can only be done for short periods of time before needing to rest
Magic and Abilities
-
They can run at speeds surpassing 70 miles per hour when at full energy and can go great distances before needing to rest.
-
Waywicks can use minor elemental magic. Some can be gifted with the use of more than one element. However, the use of more than 2 is unheard of.
-
Available elements are as follows:
-
Fire
-
Water
-
Earth
-
Air
-
Corrosion
-
Healing
-
Light
-
Dark
-
Although fighting does not occur among waywicks often, they do have some combat- and retreat-specific abilities available to them (aside from the use of hands and teeth)
-
Combat: Expelling energy via the mouth at great force, and a bark-like sound loud enough to stun an opponent or prey for a short period of time.
-
Retreat: Waywicks can emit a flash of bright light, momentarily blinding the aggressor and giving the waywick a chance at escape.
*** At this time, Corrupt Waywicks are NOT allowed to be made by anyone other than Flannel-byte/Alexander
